I am running for City Council to Make Ashland Cool Again!
I fell in love with Ashland 26 years ago and I want to retain and maintain the unique, historic character of Ashland. There is alway room for improvement on a number of different fronts, but the Ashland “vibe” is special, and it needs to be tended to. I have a lot of ideas but I certainly don’t have all the answers. After reporting on the Ashland City Council for over 5 years, I believe that I have the tools, attitude, and perspective to open up lines of communication and encourage better cooperation.
Communication and cooperation between the various city departments is a problem. Parks, Council, Planning, and Schools too often behave as competitors. City government shouldn’t be engaged in a battle but rather, a dance. Just because we disagree on some priorities doesn’t mean we can’t share information honestly and explain our intentions clearly.
Gandhi may or may not have said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” But I, Jim Falkenstein, definitely said, “Have the attitude you want to see in your community.”
P.S. – If you’re a hard core issues person, check out my priorities on the ISSUES page. They will be expanding as the campaign goes on.
